The series was originally called Inigo Pipkin, after the character played by George Woodbridge. Pipkin was an elderly puppet maker who brought his puppets to life over the course of the first series. Unfortunately, Woodbridge died suddenly during the filming of the second series. At first, Inigo's absence was explained by his being on holiday but his death was later worked into the programme. Inigo's assistant, Johnny, takes over and the name of the show changed to Pipkins.
