The Flintstones is an American animated sitcom produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, which takes place in a romanticized Stone Age setting and follows the titular family, the Flintstones, and their next-door neighbours, the Rubbles. It was originally broadcast in the US from 1960, to 1966, and was the first animated series with a prime-time slot on television.
The show was introduced to the UK on January 5, 1961 on Associated-Rediffusion in the London region, with the very first episode, "The Flintstone Flyer". It would later air in the Thames Television region in 1974, and on BBC 1 in 1989, twice.
The first episode of The Flintstones to be aired in the Thames Television region after I was born was "Boss For A Day", on August 15, 1972. The episode had debuted in the US in 1966 and was one of the last episodes to be made. Its UK debut was on Thames, on August 11, 1970. It seems the last time The Flintstones appeared on Thames Television was December 31, 1981, in The Flintstones Meet Rockula And Frankenstone. Four days earlier, LWT had aired A Flintstone Christmas. The show popped up again in September 1985, this time on BBC 1.
