"The Invaders, alien beings from a dying planet. Their destination: the Earth. Their purpose: to make it their world. David Vincent has seen them. For him, it began one lost night on a lonely country road, looking for a shortcut that he never found. It began with a closed deserted diner, and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy. Now David Vincent knows that the Invaders are here, that they have taken human form. Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun."
The Invaders is an American science-fiction television series created by Larry Cohen that aired on ABC for two seasons, from 1967 to 1968. Roy Thinnes (right) stars as architect "David Vincent" who, after stumbling across evidence of an in-progress invasion of aliens from outer space, tries to thwart the invasion despite the disbelief of officials and the general public, and the undermining of his efforts by the aliens. The series was a Quinn Martin production.
Before each episode, there was an opening narration by William Woodson, who would also provide voices for Battle Of The Planets.
In 1995, the premise was used as the basis for a four-hour television miniseries remake titled The Invaders on Fox. SCOTT BAKULA starred as "Nolan Wood", who discovers the alien conspiracy, and Roy Thinnes very briefly appeared as "David Vincent", now an old man handing the burden over to Wood. The miniseries has been released in some countries on home video, edited into a single movie.
in the UK, The Invaders debuted on ATV London on January 21, 1967. While it began airing in the same order as in the US, after "Vikor" was broadcast, it was followed by "The Innocent" and then episodes were shown in order up to "Moonshot", after which "Nightmare" aired. The series ended there on May 13, 1967. Almost exactly a year later, series 2 began airing on ATV London but it opened with "The Prophet" and continued totally out of order. In fact, "Doomsday Minus One" and "Quantity: Unknown" from series 1 were finally broadcast in June 1968. When the series was first shown in the Tyne Tees region between 1970 and 1971, it was not shown in order. Granada and Yorkshire aired the series in 1977.
When the BBC began airing both series on BBC 2 between 1984 and 1985. Episodes were shown in the same order as in the US until "Dark Outpost" when "Summit Meeting" Parts 1 & 2 and "The Prophet" were missed out. The order resumed from "Labyrinth" but "The Captive" was also unaired. The series returned to BBC 2 as part of the Def II strand in February 1990.
